New HMC Tools Help Hospitals Compete on "Value" – the Nexus of Cost and Quality

HMC now benchmarks hospital competitiveness based on the value of care delivered. Our tools incorporate AHRQ quality and safety indicators to functions, DRGs and APRDRGs to rank hospitals on our Quality Benchmark^TM.

Now, bringing cost and quality together, HMC helps you define the competitiveness of your hospital based on the value of care delivered. Cost/Quality Matrix^TM plots the relationship between a hospital’s quality ranking and its cost per unit of service ranking.



In moving your hospital towards the top left, Quadrant 1 – lower cost and higher quality – HMC computes the “Cost of Off-Quality” by comparing the cost of cases tagged as having AHRQ problems to those without. The resulting analysis helps you to direct PI initiatives towards specific quality problems and cases in a way that clinicians appreciate.



Finally, the Quality Dashboard^TM allows you to track quality measures by facility with results accessible in the HMC portal. Input can be entirely decentralized which allows for the integration of data from systems with explanations from responsible parties. You can create the indicators, manage these indicators and their dashboard, and update them at whatever frequency you wish.
